DayJet Taking 27 Of 28 Jets Out Of Operation, FAA Says

DayJet, which flew 28 Eclipse 500 aircraft, told the Federal Aviation Administration today it is parking all but one of its aircraft for economic reasons, an FAA spokesman in Washington said.

The aircraft used by the company were the subject of a congressional report released Wednesday that says the FAA certification of the planes had been rushed.

"If [DayJet] is going to cease operations, they really need to tell us that," said Les Dorr, an FAA spokesman in Washington. "It is incumbent on them to tell us they are stopping flying."

Dorr said a DayJet representative called the FAA's flight standards district office in Washington about noon today. He said he does not know whether there was an exchange of paperwork.

Officials at Boca Raton-based DayJet did not return calls for comment today. The privately held company flew on-demand service with the three-passenger EA-500s at destinations throughout the Southeast, including three in Tampa Bay.

A DayJet marketing executive said Thursday the company had not received inquiries from customers concerning the report by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee subcommittee on aviation.
