A man who refused to get out of his vehicle during a drunk-driving stop Sunday morning threw an empty beer bottle at a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy, according to a criminal arrest affidavit.
Gabriel Gonzalez, 38, was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
This is what happened at 4:17 a.m. on East Hillsborough Avenue, according to the affidavit:
Deputies suspected Gonzalez of driving under the influence and pulled him over. He refused to get of his vehicle and threw an empty beer bottle at a deputy. The bottle, which didn't break, hit the deputy in the chest.
Gonzalez refused to put his arms behind his back when he was being handcuffed. He struggled and a deputy injured his finger as he tried to cuff Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is being held tonight at Orient Road Jail on $17,000 bail.
