Hillsborough County is under an air pollution advisory due to high levels ozone, an indicator of smog.
The county Environmental Protection Commission issued the advisory today at 4 p.m. when ozone levels reached 81 parts per billion. The levels are forecast to remain above 75 parts per billion, the new federal safety standard, for eight hours.
This level of ozone is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as young children, the elderly and people with lung problems, such as asthma and emphysema.
The EPC predicts ozone levels will moderate Friday.
