Monday marked the busiest mailing day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service as people hustled and bustled to get their holiday packages off on time.
In all, more than 830 million pieces of mail entered the system Monday, a jump of more than 40 percent from the average daily volume.
For those of you who prefer to procrastinate, the following are the deadlines for mailing packages that need to arrive by Dec. 25:
Dec. 16: Parcel Post
Dec. 18: Express Mail Military Service
Dec. 21: First-Class and Priority Mail
Dec. 23: Express Mail
And if you want to skip the trip to the post office altogether, you can request free package pickup at www.usps.com.
