No One Steps Up To Get Their Wandering Goats Back

»  Comments | Post a Comment

No one called Hillsborough County deputies to get their goats back after the animals were impounded Wednesday morning along the Veterans Expressway.

About 4 a.m. Wednesday, deputies came to the expressway south of Waters Avenue and shooed eight goats away from the eastbound exit lanes and toward the side of the road.

The herd was made of five black, two brown-and-white and one brown goat. All were fully grown adults. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office got feed out to entice the goats into a trailer, Sgt. Ed Kelley said.

Deputies don't know where the goats came from. The animals have been taken to an impound lot in Lithia.

If no one comes forward to reclaim the goats, deputies will run newspaper advertisements, per state law for found property, Kelley said. If there still is no response, the goats likely will be sent to a livestock auction 30 to 90 days later.

The goats could fetch about $100 to $200 each, Kelley said. That money would go to the county.

Anyone with information on the goats should call (813) 247-8605 and ask for the environmental agricultural unit.
