A Pinellas County school bus driver was cited this morning after he rear-ended a car that had stopped to let an emergency rescue vehicle go by, St. Petersburg police said.

Two Bay Pointe Elementary School students on the bus were taken to an area hospital - one for asthma, the other for minor injuries that needed to be checked as a precaution, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa.

The wreck occurred at 31st Street South and 54th Avenue at about 8:30 a.m., he said.

The driver of the Chevrolet heading east on 54th Avenue had stopped to let the emergency vehicle go by on 31st. Street, Kajtsa said.

When he did so his car was rear-ended by the school bus, the spokesman said.

The school bus driver, Linden Brown, 42, of St. Petersburg, was cited with careless driving.
