On the plus side, a Hillsborough County apartment complex with a history of drug activities had hired an armed security guard.

On the down side, the guard had forged his security guard license and was not legally allowed to carry a weapon because he was a convicted felon, according to the sheriff's office.

Demetries A. Montgomery was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Montgomery - who also is known as Adell L. Montgomery - was an armed security guard at Avalon Village Apartments, 14407 Hensel Lane. He was patrolling the complex when deputies learned he had been convicted in 1993 for carrying a concealed firearm, deputies say.

"Avalon Village Apartment complex is currently under a mandate with the Hillsborough County Nuisance Abatement Board to clean up the apartment complex's drug and other illegal activities," a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release states.

Montgomery's bail was set at $7,500. He has since been released from jail.
