The wife of longtime Florida legislator Jim King released a statement Saturday indicating his condition has worsened and his friends and family don't expect him to recover.
Linda King asked that well-wishers not attempt to visit him or call the family. She'd prefer they keep track of King's condition through the Web site CaringBridge.org.
Earlier this month, Senate President Jeff Atwater said King, a former state Senate president, learned that cancer that had started in his pancreas had spread to other parts of his body.
King announced more than a month ago that he was on the road to recovery after surgery to remove cancerous tumors from his pancreas. He said a CAT scan showed he was cancer free.
Although that type of cancer normally has a low survival rate, chances improve dramatically when the disease is caught early enough to operate.
King, 69, served in the Florida House from 1986 to 1999 and has been in the Senate since then. He was Senate president from 2002 to 2004.
