Seized drug ship will now do good as artificial reef

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A 165-foot ship seized by customs has been sunk off the coast of South Florida to create an artificial reef.

The boat took just nine minutes to sink today to its permanent location about a mile off Deerfield Beach. The ship - formerly called "Miss Lourdies" and renamed "Miracle of Life" - is expected to lure eels, nurse sharks and grouper as well as divers in its new life as a reef.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized the ship in Miami in 2008 after finding more than 300 pounds of cocaine onboard. The drugs were worth millions of dollars.
