A manager at the famed Columbia restaurant was charged with driving under the influence early this morning, according to police records.
At 1:40 a.m., Cassandra Gonzmart, 27, was driving in a 2000 Toyota when she ran a red light at the intersection of Howard Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, according to Tampa police records.
She was stopped by police, who say there was "a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from breath, her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slurred."
Gonzmart, according to police, agreed to a roadside sobriety test. "She showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest," according to a police report.
She refused a breath test, according to the report.
Gonzmart returned to the family restaurant since 2006, according to the Columbia website.
"She currently works at the corporate office in Ybor City as the Manager of Quality Assurance," according to the website. "In this capacity, she works with all of the Columbia Restaurants to assure that all ingredients, recipes and food meet Columbia Restaurant's high standards. These three factors are critical to insure that guests always receive an outstanding meal and consistent experience in each of the Columbia Restaurants. She joins her father, uncle and two cousins in the corporate office, and she enjoys learning from these family members.
"Cassandra is actively involved with Hillsborough Community College, and she joined the HCC Foundation Board of Directors in July 2006. She is active in planning events to raise money for scholarships."
Gonzmart was charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor. She is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $500 bond.
