A Sarasota woman is being treated for injuries today after she lost control of her car and crashed head-on into another car.

Police said Jacqueline Mays, 47, was driving south on 15th Street East near Rome Avenue in southern Manatee County about 4 p.m. when her 1996 Mercury sedan stalled and lost steering control.

The car veered into the path of a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Tomas Peliz-Equila, 31, of Bradenton.

Only Mays was injured. She was admitted at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Her condition was not available.

A passenger, Yasriyyah Brown, 30, was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Mays was charged with careless driving and driving without a valid driver's license.

Peliz-Equila was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without a vehicle registration and without proof of insurance.
