ABC is getting the "Naked Chef."
British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has signed on for six episodes of a reality series on which he will travel to "the fattest towns in America" to help the residents slim down.
It is being produced by "American Idol" host and radio personality Ryan Seacrest and could be on the air by January.
Filming is to begin in August in an undisclosed town. Seacrest has declined to reveal which city has been selected.
The ABC series apparently was inspired by "Jamie's School Dinners," a British series built around Oliver's campaign to get unhealthy food removed from the country's school cafeterias.
In the ABC program, Oliver will work with town officials and local schools to offer more healthy food options. (Does that involve closing the local McDonald's and Burger Kings?).
"We've developed an original concept that starts with one community and hopefully will spread across the country," Seacrest says.
School lunch programs also will be involved. Oliver and his producers will also assess the availability of fresh produce at local grocery stores, the proliferation of fast-food establishments and choices available at offices.
Oliver, who became a celebrity on the Food Network series "The Naked Chef," has remained a star on the British culinary scene with cookbooks, a magazine and multiple restaurants.
