Police arrested the assistant principal for administration at Strawberry Crest High School in Dover for driving under the influence this morning, records show.
Melvin Williams Jr., 31, of Riverview was released from the Orient Road Jail today on $500 bail.
Tampa police charged him with the misdemeanor about 1:40 a.m. at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Dona Michelle Drive, jail records show.
An officer pulled over the black Nissan sport-utility vehicle that Williams was driving after noticing the driver was unable to maintain a single lane of travel, an arrest affidavit states.
Williams' breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, police said in the affidavit. He refused to take a test to indicate his blood-alcohol level.
Strawberry Crest High School temporarily is located at 13130 Newsome Road in Dover because of construction, according to the school's Web site. Its new location at Interstate 4 and McIntosh Road opens in August.
