A man who skipped out on his Hillsborough County court date was booked at the Hernando County Jail on Wednesday.
George A. Farmer, 43, of Zephyrhills, was arrested in October on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated fleeing and eluding at a high speed and knowingly driving on a suspended or revoked license.
A Hillsborough deputy ran a license plate check on a motorcycle Oct. 11 and discovered the vehicle had been stolen, said Deputy Larry McKinnon, a sheriff's spokesman.
Responding deputies tried to "box him in" at a traffic light and one deputy approached him and attempted to "grab him," McKinnon said.
Farmer, in turn, accelerated toward the deputy, who had made "two or three evasive maneuvers" to get out of the way, McKinnon said.
The deputy was struck and suffered minor injuries. A helicopter spotted Farmer, who eventually was arrested in Pasco County after he lost control of his motorcycle at a construction site, according to media reports.
He was released on bond and skipped his hearing in Hillsborough County Circuit Court, McKinnon said.
His latest bond was set at $250,000, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
