A man was stabbed in the chest on Monday night during an altercation in which he fired shots at his assailant, Tarpon Springs police said.
The stab wounds inflicted on George Pattri, 49, were described as life-threatening, said Lt. Barbara Templeton of the Tarpon Springs Police Department. The man who reportedly assaulted him has not been identified.
Investigators learned of the altercation when they received several 911 calls at 11:05 p.m. reporting that shots had been fired at a mobile home park, 403 Riverside Drive, Lot 14, Tarpon Springs.
When police arrived, they found Pattri with severe chest injuries. Pattri told police he had shot at his attacker but did not know whether the attacker had been struck.
Police said it didn't appear to be a random attack.
The sharp weapon used to attack Pattri and the gun have been recovered, Templeton said.
Pattri was airlifted to an area hospital.
Witnesses told police they saw a man between 25 and 30 years old with light brown hair, a black T-shirt, jeans and white sneakers fleeing in a dark-colored vehicle.
