3 motorcyclists die in separate accidents

Roads proved deadly Saturday for motorcycle riders when three were killed in separate accidents. None were wearing helmets.

The accidents happened in Polk, Pasco and Sumter counties, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The first occurred at 12:20 p.m. in Polk County.

Victor Gaz, 71, of Davenport was at a stop sign at U.S. 27 and Poitras Road 2 and pulled into the path of Thomas Regan, 33, of Avon Park who was heading south on U.S. 27, the highway patrol said.

Regan's Suzuki motorcycle hit the 2004 Dodge sedan Gaz was driving, the accident report said. Regan braked sharply to avoid the collision but hit the front of the Dodge. He was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed but the accident remains under investigation.

The second accident happened about 2:20 p.m. Saturday in Sumter County when 70-year-old George Lastinger made a sharp right turn leaving the driveway at 1751 St. James Circle and crossed the road into the lawn of the house across the street, the FHP said.

The front of the motorcycle hit a rock, throwing Lastinger of Duluth, Ga., into the wall of a garage, the accident report said.

The third accident happened about 8:45 p.m. in Pasco County when a 59-year-old resident of Land O' Lakes riding a 2000 Harley Davidson south on U.S. 41 swerved to avoid a piece of tire tread in the road south of Connerton Boulevard, the FHP said.

The driver lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle, the highway patrol said.
The motorcycle rider has not been identified because troopers have not told family members.
