An unruly patron at a club on U.S. 19 died this morning after an employee held him down in the parking lot because the patron swung at someone, deputies said.
The patron has been identified as Jayson P. Zalewski, 34, 8756 Quail Road, Seminole.
Authorities were called to the 24 Karat Gentlemen's Club, 16717 U.S. 19 N., about 2:25 a.m., the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies were told Zalewski had been told to leave the club after becoming unruly.
Zalewski continued to be unruly outside, taking off his jacket as if he wanted to fight. When another customer tried to calm him, Zalewski swung at him, the sheriff's office said.
A club employee, Cecil Chapman, 40, stepped in while others called 911. Deputies arrived and found Chapman holding Zalewski to the ground and were told Zalewski was the cause of the problem.
Deputies began to handcuff Zalewski and discovered he wasn't breathing. They began CPR and called paramedics.
Zalewski was taken to Largo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:36 a.m., sheriff's officials said.
An autopsy will be performed.
A man who answered the phone at the club this afternoon declined to comment.
Zalewski served a one-year prison term stemming from a 2004 grand theft case in Alachua County, according to the Department of Corrections website. He also served a little more than four years in the 1990s in a 1995 burglary and assault case in Pinellas, according to the website says.
