A 15-year-old boy was burned on his face today after someone apparently threw homemade fireworks toward him, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
The teen was taken to Tampa General Hospital, the sheriff's office said.
He told investigators that at around 3 p.m. he walked outside to the mailbox. As he was reaching for the mail, he heard a noise. He turned around and something blew up in his face.
The boy said he then saw two people dressed in black riding away on bicycles.
Sheriff's investigators suspect the explosion might have involved homemade fireworks.
The case remains under investigation.
