A small fire this afternoon caused about $10,000 in damage to the Four Green Fields pub, 205 W. Platt St., Tampa Fire Rescue said.
Units responded at 1:40 p.m. to a report of a fire at the pub and found smoke coming from the single-story building. The fire was under control in 10 minutes, and no injuries were reported.
Business manager Randy Burns, 56, told a fire marshal's investigator that an air conditioning repair company had just installed a heating element in the air handler in the attic, and shortly after the repair crew left he and two employees saw smoke coming from the air ducts. The investigator determined boxes stored in the attic were too close to the new heating element and caught fire, officials said.
Damage was limited to the boxes in the attic, and no damage was reported to the pub itself.
The pub was open for business tonight.
