Tampa police have arrested a registered sex offender who allegedly attacked a woman he met at a nightclub Friday morning.
Tommy Lee Sailor, 37, was arrested at 3203 Hartnett St. on Saturday evening. He was being taken to police headquarters for questioning by detectives.
The victim told police she met Sailor early on New Year's Day, and around 4:15 a.m., they returned to his home where he lives with an uncle.
At the home, the victim said, Sailor became violent when his sexual advances were rebuffed, police said, at one point holding a screwdriver to the victim's throat while assaulting her, police said.
During the assault, the victim dialed 911 on her cell phone. When officers broke down the door, Sailor jumped through a back window, according to police.
"This guy was convicted of a sexual assault on a female back in 1994, and was sent to prison," police spokesman Lt. Donny Peters said before the arrest was made. "We want to get him off the street before it happens again."
