A driver of a Ford Expedition lost control of her vehicle and drove into a gas station, crashing into a gas pump and catching the Expedition and a Ford Fusion on fire.
Tampa Fire Rescue and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the fire and quickly put it out. There were no injuries.
The driver of the Expedition, who hasn't been identified, was cited for traveling too fast for conditions, an official said.
The weather may have played a factor. At the time of the accident, there was a downpour and the roads were slippery. The driver of the Expedition told investigators that she had trouble with her brakes.
Just before 5 p.m., the driver of the Expedition lost control of the vehicle as she headed north on Florida Avenue at the intersection with Linebaugh Avenue, officials said.
The Expedition crossed the median into oncoming traffic and struck a white Lincoln driven by Matt Benjamin.
The Expedition continued into a Mobil gas station and crashed into a gas pump, setting the Expedition and a Ford Fusion, driven by Angela Martin, on fire.
The Expedition and Fusion were destroyed.
