A fight, a stun gun and a wanted felon all ended early this morning with no one hurt.
Clearwater police went to the Economy Inn on U.S. 19 shortly after 4 a.m. after receiving a tip that 25-year-old Jerome Kirkland, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, might be there.
The officer called for backup, but Kirkland tried to run and the officer and Kirkland began struggling. The officer eventually subdued Kirkland by using a Taser.
Afterward, police said, officers found a loaded .38 caliber handgun hidden under a towel near where the officer first made contact with Kirkland.
Kirkland, of Safety Harbor, faces several drug charges, along with charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
