Jared Cano, accused of plotting to blow up Freedom High School, has become a Facebook sensation, with pages popping up dedicated to freeing him and saving him.
"Free Jared Cano," created Wednesday, had 700 "likes" and dozens of posts by Thursday.
"Let's keep Jared and his family in our thoughts and prayers," the page creator wrote in an early message. "He is not a murderer he just made a threat and had a few notes. Thanks!"
Many of the posts blast Cano for the alleged plot.
"If he's trying to commit these acts at such a young age he's just a waste of space in society," wrote Myron Gheins. "Give him the death penalty and get rid of this garbage. I don't care what you've been through, if you're going to try to blow up a learning institution as a whole assuming every person in there has done something to you, you're not only an unintelligent, but also a waste."
But not everyone had negative comments.
"Whoever you are, that made this page, I love how you don't let anyone bring you down," wrote Jessica LeAnn. "Your attitude is awesome. Haha your [sic] like my hero."
Another page was created around 2 p.m. Thursday, called "Save Jared Cano."
"Instead of freeing him, we should be focused on saving him!," wrote the page creator. "No crime should go unpunished but instead of hate we should be offering love. Pray for Jared Cano and rally for a merciful sentence and as much mental help he can be given. No good can be achieved by throwing him to the wolves in an adult prison for the rest of his life. Jared Cano is only seventeen, he has an entire life ahead of him so what gives the state the right to throw it away?"
The Save Jared Cano page had 36 likes as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
Several other pages have cropped up as well, including "Support Jared Cano," "Lock Up Jared Cano," "Don't free jared cano" and "Free Jared Cano he does not diserve [sic] any of that."
