The heat wave that has had a grip on much of the rest of the United States will give Florida a little taste of it in the coming days.
"That is going to be sliding to the east and southeast," said Richard Rude, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Ruskin. "That will keep us slightly warmer than normal and drier than normal."
Thankfully, however, it won't be as hot here as it is in many places along the East Coast.
It's supposed to soar to 102 in Raleigh, N.C., today. And it is expected to be 101 in Baltimore, 100 in Richmond, Va., and 99 in the nation's capital.
Drier air that had been in place across the Tampa Bay area and the rest of Florida, thanks to Tropical Storm Bret swirling in the Atlantic Ocean, is being replaced by more humid air, said Leigh Spann, meteorologist with News Channel 8.
Highs today in Tampa are expected to top out at about 92 degrees. The same is true for Friday and Saturday. But those highs jump to 94 for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
The chance of rain is at 20 percent today, then jumps to 30 percent after that.
A tropical wave near Cuba may pump a little extra moisture toward Florida, Rude said, for Friday and Saturday.
"That just depends on how far north it moves," he added.
