An arrest has been made in a rape case that gained attention when the victim wrote about the assault on Twitter.
Charles Newbold, 28, 1152 Ruby St., was arrested after DNA found at the scene linked him to the assault, Tampa police said late Friday.
The assault took place May 27 in the victim's home, a converted bus near the Historic Ybor District. After the attack, the victim spent two hours corresponding with others about what had happened. She stopped at the request of police investigators, who were concerned about her safety and the integrity of the investigation.
Newbold was arrested Friday at a gas station in Lakeland and charged with sexual battery and burglary. He is being held without bail, according to jail records.
