Blaine Markee, a longtime orthopedic surgeon in Tampa and Winter Haven, was found dead at his weekend home on Anna Maria Island, authorities said. He was 51.
Markee was found face down in the hot tub at the home at 223 Periwinkle Plaza about 6:15 p.m., the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said. His wife performed CPR until paramedics arrived, the sheriff's office said, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No foul play is suspected. An autopsy by the local medical examiner's office is expected to determine the cause of death.
Markee practiced at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and also taught at the University of South Florida, according to the university's website. He also practiced in Winter Haven.
Markee graduated in 1987 from the Rosalind Franklin University Of Medicine Science in Chicago.
