St. Petersburg police had to stun Charles Alvaris Dawson, 1418 28th St. N., with a Taser to take him into custody.
Officers were called to Dawson's home just after 1 a.m. They found the unnamed teenager in an alley behind the home with numerous stab wounds to her neck and upper body, police said.
Police found Dawson in a bedroom. He had a 10-inch kitchen knife and had stabbed himself several times and refused to drop the knife, according to a release.
He became aggressive and threatened officers before being stunned with the Taser and taken into custody, police said.
Witnesses said Dawson and the teen were arguing inside the house before she left. Dawson followed her and began stabbing her repeatedly in the alley.
The girl suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where she was admitted in critical condition, police said.
Dawson also was treated at a local hospital, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police said. He was arrested on a charge of attempted murder and remains hospitalized under police guard.
