A man was killed Tuesday when he tried to make methamphetamine while driving, and the bottle containing the mixture exploded, Lakeland police said.
The driver, Clifford Ellison, 36, was found dead at the scene of the crash, 3955 Drane Field Road, Lakeland.
After reviewing the crash evidence and talking to a passenger who had fled on foot, police determined Ellison was trying to make methamphetamine in a glass liquor bottle while driving about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The bottle exploded during the process, and pieces of glass struck Ellison in the neck, causing a fatal wound, police said.
The one-bottle process is known as "Shake and Bake" or "One Pot."
An autopsy is scheduled.
No charges were filed against the passenger at this time, police said.
