As if Tampa Bay area sports fans need more ammunition in their growing rivalry against all things Boston.
A YouTube video shot from the stands Tuesday night during the Lightning's game at the Forum against the Bruins shows a fracas that broke out between a Bruins fan and ... ThunderBug.
The Lightning's mascot was performing in the stands during the Lightning's 5-3 win, spraying Silly String at the fan while he sat in an aisle seat.
The fan jumped out of his seat and shoved ThunderBug from behind as the mascot made its way up the stands.
As ThunderBug held onto the railing to keep from falling, security quickly moved in and momentarily escorted the fan away.
ThunderBug seemed to take satisfaction, pointing toward the exit while the man was led out of the section. As the fan walked up the aisle, he confronted ThunderBug face-to-face and then turned around to yell at the crowd.
Lightning spokesman Bill Wickett said the matter was being reviewed by the team and couldn't say whether the mascot was out of line.
"The fan was taken out of the seat for a few minutes, talked to and then allowed to return to his seat," Wickett said. "We had no other incident with the fan for the rest of the game."
The rivalry between Boston and Tampa Bay has been brewing for years, coinciding with the Rays' ascent in baseball's American League East – including edging out the Red Sox in last season's final game to earn a wild-card playoff berth.
