A Hudson man was charged with driving under the influence after a hit-and-run crash with a motorcycle left two people critically injured Thursday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Michael Andrew Del-Freo, 42, was driving a 2001 Kia and pulling out of a Sunoco station on U.S. 19, just north of Hudson Avenue, about 11:40 p.m., when the car struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the highway patrol said in a news release.
The motorcycle's driver, Gary S. Thomas, 62, of Spring Hill, and his passenger, Janet M. Nash, 48, of Daytona Beach, were injured and taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. They were not wearing helmets, according to the highway patrol.
Del-Freo left the scene of the wreck, according to the highway patrol. Troopers arrested him later at his home, at 14019 Shoal Drive.
Del-Freo had a breath-alcohol concentration between 0.148 and 0.153, according to the news release. He was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
