A baby could not wait on its delivery to make it to St. Joseph’s Hospital, and instead made her debut with the help of a state trooper in the median of Interstate 4 on Tuesday.
About 12:20 p.m., Wiclef Desamour, 35, and his wife, Latoya Desamour, 34, both of Tampa, were rushing from Brandon to St. Joseph’s when they realized their new child would not wait, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The couple pulled their Chrysler Pacifica onto the westbound median near where they saw a trooper.
Trooper Dennis Rich, Troop C in Tampa, was investigating a crash on eastbound I-4 between Hillsborough Avenue and U.S. Highway 301, the patrol said. The parents called to Rich who helped deliver their new daughter, Arabella.
The Desamours were then assisted by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and later transported to the hospital, the patrol said.
Arabella now joins her siblings, a 7-year-old sister, 5-year-old brother and an 18-month-old daughter.
