A memorial service for Freddie Solomon is set for 11 a.m. today at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa.
Solomon, 59, died Feb. 13 of colon cancer.
He was a football star at the University of Tampa in the 1970s and later played professionally for the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.
After retiring from football, he was employed more than 20 years by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in community relations, serving as a mentor for youths.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Tampa Freddie Solomon Scholarship Fund, HCSO Charities Inc. or the DeBartolo Family Foundation.
