Berkeley Prep sophomore outside hitter Jordan Burgess helped the U.S. Youth National Volleyball team win the NORCECA Girls Youth Continental Championship in Guatemala City on May 2.

The U.S. team defeated No. 1 seed Mexico 25-19, 25-21, 15-25, 25-17 during the gold-medal match to win its fifth consecutive title in the age group and sixth overall at the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation.

In the gold-medal match, Burgess, the 2010 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A player of the year, finished with three points. USA went 3-0 in its pool, which included Canada, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, to advance to the semifinals, where it beat Puerto Rico in three sets.

Burgess helped Berkeley Prep win its state title this past season and ended with 363 kills and 385 digs.

According to USA Volleyball, the U.S. team automatically qualified for the 2011 International Volleyball Federation's Girls Youth World Championship in Turkey, and as the NORCECA tournament champion, will also compete in the first International Olympic Committee's Youth Olympics to be held in August in Singapore.
