An upcoming seminar will let people explore Argentina through the viewpoint of wine.
The Carrollwood Cultural center will present a wine and travel workshop Sept. 13 that will focus on Argentina. This is the third in the series; two other sessions feature Italy and Spain.
The workshop is being put on by Time for Wine and AAA Carrollwood.
Facilitator Charles Visalli will lead the class on a journey through the country, exploring various types of wines of the region.
"They'll get an educational component where they will learn about the geography and climate of the region," Visalli said. "And of course, they will learn about the various wines of the region."
Visalli said he will feature at least three or four different types of wines, and tries to choose more unusual offerings.
"We'll also talk about how to read labels, since different countries classify their wines differently," he said.
He'll talk about which foods go best with each wine selection. Visalli said he also will present different travel alternatives.
"You can visit more than wineries to sample great wines," he said. "We'll talk about taking chefs classes or visiting a place that specializes in olives."
Visalli said the classes are perfect for anyone who desires knowledge about wines.
"If you're just a novice and want a little more information, this is a great way to do it," he said. "I tell professional business people that if they are going to entertain, they need to know which wine to choose. You can't order a white zinfandel with a steak."
The hour-long class begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $20 for Carrollwood Cultural Center members and AAA members, or $25 for nonmembers. For information about the class, call (813) 664-1430. Prepayment is required and participants must be at least 21 years old.
