Exhibits Fill Photo Gallery
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts presents two exhibits that will open Friday and run through Jan. 9.
The main gallery will showcase infrared, aerial photographs of Earth by photographer and pilot Robert Hartman. Called "Eye in the Sky," the photographs portray the planet as an abstract painting, where ravaged land masses seem to bleed into one another. Hartman documents what he sees as man-made destruction, such as overplowed strips, gouging by bulldozers, lands poisoned by chemicals and housing developments.
A separate gallery area will feature "Through the Eyes of a Child: Infinite Possibilities," a lively show of photographs taken by children who were involved in the museum's free Children's Outreach Program, which this year reached five organizations.
The exhibits open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the museum, 200 N. Tampa St. Hartman will discuss his work at 10 a.m. Saturday. Both events are free. Call the museum at (813) 221-2222 or visit www.fmopa.org for information.

Exhibit Focuses On The Abstract
The TECO Public Art Gallery closes out the 2007 season with an exhibit by Sun City Center resident Boris Chezar.
A prolific painter, Chezar, 94, began his career as a commercial artist in New York City, creating illustrations for magazines, three-dimensional art and large murals. Now his passion is pastels, allowing him to bring humorous metaphors to the surface.
His art is on display through Jan. 4 at the gallery, 702 N. Franklin St. For information, contact Debra Jo Radke at (813) 767-1600 or dradke1@tampabay.rr.com.
Hispanic Culture Heads Art Event
The Tampa Artist Emporium, at 1618 Snow Ave. in Hyde Park Village, will host an evening of networking celebrating Hispanic culture and art.
Presented in conjunction with Arte 2007 and the Hispanic Professional Women's Association, the event will feature Latin artists who will show their work and discuss how the Latin community helped and inspired them. They are Robert Caamino, Daniel Goncalves, Arnold Martinez, Nancy Rodriguez and Carlos Vasconcelos.
"The nice thing about Martinez (who paints using tobacco, Cuban coffee and wine) is that he grew up in Ybor and he's going to be our main speaker," emporium owner Shelby Boggs said.
A $10 donation will benefit the women's association's scholarships and mentoring programs.
