TAMPA - A homeowner is recovering from a gunshot wound after four young men tried to break into his home this morning, authorities said.

The man told deputies he was asleep about 11:30 a.m. when he heard somebody breaking into his home at 6211 43rd St. N.

He approached the door and the intruders fired through the door, hitting him in the ankle, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter says in a news release.

The intruders fled. The homeowner told deputies all four men appeared young and were wearing black jackets. Two had dreadlocks.

The homeowner was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200.
