TAMPA - The United Daughters of the Confederacy decided to give to the community rather than to each other at a Dec. 8 gift exchange.
Members were asked to participate in one of the four Benevolent and Patriotic club projects.
Members brought yarn to be crocheted into lap robes and scarves for patients at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center; quarters for bingo at the Baldomero Lopez Veterans' Nursing Home in Land O' Lakes; Pennies for Pearl to help build a new visitor center at Pearl Harbor; and more than 70 pounds of nonperishable food items for Metropolitan Ministries.
The group will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at the Steak and Ale restaurant, 204 N. West Shore Blvd. The program, Dressing Children in the Victorian Era, will be presented by member Shelly Jakes.
