Lauren Hines was announced as Palma Ceia Little League's first recipient of the Good Sport Award on May 9.

The Little League Good Sport Award Program provides local leagues an opportunity to recognize a Little Leaguer who has demonstrated sportsmanship, leadership, a commitment to teamwork and a desire to excel. The criteria for selection of the Good Sport Award recipient is in no way based on the youngster's playing ability or personal statistics.

Coach David Taulbee wrote on his nomination form for Hines, a Dale Mabry Elementary third-grader, that she "stands for what Little League baseball/softball is all about; 2009 was Lauren's first year of organized softball and through hard work, dedication, and listening to her coaches' instruction, Lauren has exceled to become one of the Panther's most improved players."
