A University of Tampa student and his friend were injured early today after a vehicle jumped the curb and struck them near the college, police said.
Erik V. Nicoletti, 20, and Cree Alisha Riley, 19, were walking along West Kennedy Boulevard just west of North Boulevard about 1:15 a.m. when a car veered onto the sidewalk. The car was traveling about 30 mph when it struck them.
Police said Nicoletti and Riley were taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Nicoletti remains in critical condition today, and Riley is in stable condition, a TGH official said.
Nicoletti is a junior who lives on campus, UT spokesman Eric Cardenas said.
Riley is visiting from out of town, police said.
The vehicle drove away after the collision but was found later by Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies near North Dale Mabry Highway and Lambright Street.
Although the driver has not been found, the vehicle has been impounded and evidence was found on the vehicle, police said.
Police have not released a description of the vehicle and are trying to determine its owner.
