Cleveland school gets $700

»  Comments | Post a Comment

As part of the Great American Teach-In event, Cleveland Elementary School received a $700 check from the Jane Castor Academic Fund.

Donations came from the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Watch and the nonprofit Seminole Heights Foundation. The fund was set up to recognize Castor, who is Tampa's first female police chief, and to benefit schools in the greater Seminole Heights area. The donation is expected to be an annual event on the Great American Teach-In day.

School officials will use the money to buy supplies, such as note pads and pencils, and pay for field trips for needy students, said Principal Peter Russo.

"That was quite an honor, and what better cause than education," Castor said. Second-grade teacher Brenda Hill and her students joined Russo in accepting the check.
