American Legion Auxiliary Unit 138, Port Tampa, recently held a reception for its 2009 delegates to Girls State, which took place in July in Tallahassee.
Robinson High seniors Bruna Bouhid and Rita Murjani attended the 70-year-old program sponsored nationally by the American Legion Auxiliary. The students said they met 300 girls who were top-notch achievers and enjoyed the experience of campaigning for office and proposing legislation.
Murjani had an additional honor. She was one of the two girls sent on to Washington, D.C., to represent Florida at Girls Nation. She is the first Tampa Bay area selectee since 1997.
