Gusty winds up to 25 knots could not stop the 2009 Progressive Air/Carrier Chasco Fiesta Boat Parade on Saturday.
That was a good thing for the Clearwater-Tarpon Springs RV Campground because its entry in the aquatic parade along the Pithlachascotee River earned the $2,500 grand prize, according to Brent Simon, chairman of the event presented by the New Port Richey Rotary Club.
A band played on the float, "Elton John and Friends." The lead singer, dressed as Elton John, sat at a red piano sitting inside a pink Cadillac. The float also won the Battle of the Bands trophy.

For-Profit
First place - $300 went to Meadow Lane Surgery Center for "Yellow Submarine."
Second place - $125 went to Braybrook Assisted Living Facility for "Grease."
Third place - $75 went to Ker's Winghouse for "The Village People."
Nonprofit
First place - $300 went to Rotary Club of Trinity for "The Wizard of Oz."
Second place - $125 went to Port Hudson Fishing Club for "Family Fishing & Safety."
Family Or Individual
First place - $300 went to Lakes, Bergs and Berryhills for "Tribute to Music Artists."
Second place - $125 went to the Hegenderfer Family for "Woodstock."
Third Place - $75 went to Cotee River Crew for "Village People."
Chad Brock, the grand marshal and master of ceremonies, chatted with the crowd. New Port Richey Mayor Scott McPherson presented a proclamation to Brock, thanking him for his efforts.
Keith Kunzig of Largo, better known as Tampa Bay Buccaneers super fan Big Nasty, and Bucs wide receiver Michael Clayton met fans and then presented New Port Richey Police Chief Martin Rickus with a special appreciation award, signed jersey and other Buccaneer mementos.
