Hillsborough residents can gain insight into the inner workings of their county by attending the 2010 Government Leadership University.
The GLU is an interactive program that gives participants a look inside the operations of various county governmental departments. Hillsborough's Office of Neighborhood Relations offers GLU as a way of having better-informed neighborhood leaders who will use this increased knowledge to strengthen their respective communities.
Those interested in learning more about county government leadership, untangling government red tape, and establishing relationships with department directors and staff are encouraged to apply.
Class sessions will convene at the County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., in Tampa, and include presentations on accessing programs and services. Additionally, participants will make site visits to Animal Services, Code Enforcement, Emergency Management, Fire Rescue, Public Works, Solid Waste Management, Water Resource Services and more.
Starting Aug. 24, classes will take place every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon until Oct. 26.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and residents of Hillsborough County. They must also commit to attending a minimum of seven sessions.
The registration deadline is Aug. 16.
