Chasco crowd defies nippy air

»  Comments | Post a Comment

At last year's Chasco Fiesta, spectators wore short-sleeved shirts and worked up a bit of a sweat.

At opening night Thursday for Chasco Fiesta 2010, spectators wore jackets as temperatures during a prolonged cold spell remained as much as 10 degrees below normal.

But the American Indian acts on stage at Sims Park warmed the crowd, which was undaunted by the slight chill.

Arvel Bird's concert was warmly received. Seven Big Mountain performed a ring dance that brought thunderous applause.

Meanwhile, thrill seekers often screamed as they tried various carnival rides.

A warming trend in the weather appears timed to coincide with the 11-day run of Chasco Fiesta, which continues through March 28.

The annual street parade today highlighted weekend festivities.
