Event benefits youth golf program

The Junior Golf Program at the Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club will have its annual fundraiser June 7 with all proceeds to benefit scholarships, instruction, tournaments and equipment.

The event will be at Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club, 200 Inverness Ave. It includes a silent auction, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a live auction at 7. Items will include golf packages, vacations, jewelry, golf apparel and more.

A garage sale room will have used golf equipment, golf balls and other accessories. A pasta dinner will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. for $6.95 for those ages 13 and older, $3.95 for 12 and younger.

The Junior Golf Program is a nonprofit organization, which seeks to provide a platform for junior golfers of all levels with a comprehensive instruction program and competitive environment for boys and girls ages 6 to 17. The program is run by Megan Younkman, a Class A member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

Free event promotes literacy

It's All About Kids will have a free expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4 at its center at University Mall.

The nonprofit organization provides literacy and enrichment programs through afterschool programs, summer camp, manners programs and other activities.

Walk benefits veterans program

The VA 2K, a walk to benefit homeless veterans and promote health and wellness, is set for 7:30 to 10 a.m. June 2.

The event, at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, is open to the public and will begin in the second floor auditorium, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. The hospital is one of 130 sites participating in this first-time national event.

There is no registration charge, but participants are asked to bring donations such as toiletries, bug spray, sunscreen, backpacks, ponchos, new socks, gift cards or cash.

Register now for Bible school

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church is accepting registration for its vacation Bible school, which will have the theme "Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus Was a Kid."

The program, open to children kindergarten through completion of fifth grade, will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 20-24 at the church, 5340 Primrose Circle.

The fee is $20 per child or $6 0 per family. Scholarships are available.

Women's club has covered-dish luncheon

The Tampa Palms Women's Club will have its annual spring covered-dish luncheon June 2.

The 11 a.m. event at Compton Park, 16101 Compton Drive, includes the last meeting before a summer recess and the presentation of checks to representatives from various charities.

The club will resume with a general meeting Sept.1 and a membership brunch Sept. 15.

Creative writing workshop planned

Romance authors Erica Ridley, Kathy Carmichael, Kimberley Llewellyn, and Elissa Wilds will speak about the writing process at free event for teens and adults at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Temple Terrace Public Library, 202 Bullard Parkway.

Following the presentation, there will be a creative writing workshop to brainstorm ideas and prepare attendees to write their own short story.

Seniors can enter their paintings, crafts

Hillsborough County seniors, ages 60 and older, can enter their artwork and their crafts in a display as part of Senior Spring Fling.

The event will be June 7 at the University Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd St.

This art show is limited to the first 150 entries.

Crafts can include jewelry dolls, baskets, ceramics, wood craft, stained glass and other works. All entries must be received by 4 p.m. June 3. For a registration form, call (813) 272-5160.

Exchange student speaks at Rotary

The Tampa Evening Rotary Club will have a foreign exchange student as its speaker Thursday.
