Award-winning broadcaster and bestselling author Jane Pauley will speak at the Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph's Luncheon.
The event is at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 2 at the Tampa Yacht & Country Club, 5320 Interbay Blvd.
Pauley's career has spanned morning, daytime and primetime television. In addition to beginning her network television career as co-host of NBC's "Today" show, she was the founding co-anchor of "Dateline NBC" and host of "The Jane Pauley Show."
A member of the Broadcast and Cable Hall of Fame, Pauley has been honored with multiple Emmys and awards, including the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. She is the author of The New York Times bestseller "Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue."
Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph's is a leadership network of community-minded women who want to change and save lives in the Tampa Bay community by investing annual membership gifts in collaboration with other women leaders. Gifts of Philanthropic Women, and proceeds from this event, support women's health, children's health and child advocacy at St. Joseph's Hospitals.

Chapter recognized for its work
The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association of Florida celebrated its first annual meeting as a chapter recently at the Centre Club in Tampa. The Florida chapter, with more than 120 members, was the recipient of the first-ever Setting the Bar Award, which recognized the work of the chapter.
The organization is dedicated to advancing women in healthcare through education, creating greater visibility for people in the industry and fostering mentoring relationships. In addition to the Setting the Bar award, Hayley Norman was the HBA Florida Chapter recipient of the Leadership, Excellence and Dedication (LEAD) Award.
Duellyn Pandis, director of volunteer engagement, recognized chapter members with awards for their contributions and participation. They are: Alison Guasch, Betsy Hodge, Jennifer Sabile, Jill Malkin, Julianne Ita, Linda VerPlanck, Lindsay Carter, Lisa Tawil, Maria Poulakis, Marika Thiessen, Megan Dangerfield, Milinda Tougas, Patricia Laird, Sherida Ferguson and Triska Pederson.
Alegria plans pirate dog contest
The Krewe of Alegria will have a "cutest pirate dog contest" from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Gaspar's Grotto, 1805 E. Seventh Ave.
Proceeds will benefit Alegria's Kickin' for Kids, which provides new shoes for children in need in the Tampa Bay area; and Animal Coalition of Tampa, which provides medical services to animals of low-income pet owners.

Dragon Party is Saturday
Ye Enchanted Krewe of Brigadoon will have an all-krewe social to kick off the parade season from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Mangroves, 208 S. Howard Ave.
Entry is $10, with the money going to the Jack and Jill Foundation. There will be drink and food specials. Kristina Anderson is president of the krewe.
