Pasco County's Teacher of the Year has acting chops to go along with her teaching skills.
Maybe that combination contributes to her success.
"I know in my classroom students enjoy my charisma," Carla Nolan, a Sunlake High intensive reading and drama teacher, said in biographical information provided by the Pasco Education Foundation.
Nolan was named Teacher of the Year on Saturday evening at a banquet at River Ridge High School's Center for the Arts. The event was hosted by the Pasco Education Foundation.
Three other school district employees of the year also received honors.
Saybra Chapman, a supervisor in the district's employees benefits, assistance and risk management department, was named Administrator of the Year.
Betsy Eanes, a secretary in the employee relations department, is Noninstructional-Nonbargaining Employee of the Year.
Laura Hauser, media tech assistant at Wesley Chapel Elementary, is School Related Personnel Employee of the Year.
Nolan has taught in Florida for 13 years and helped open Sunlake High School in Land O' Lakes in 2007.
"I came to Pasco County to build a community in a new school because I needed to personally and professionally challenge myself," she said in a prepared statement. "My work at Sunlake has provided me with a robust sense of accomplishment."
Nolan is a National Board Certified teacher, a member of United School Employees of Pasco and a member of the International Thespian Society. She also is class sponsor for Sunlake High's class of 2015.
The other finalists for Teacher of the Year were Christina Page, a science teacher at Pasco High, and Janet Tolson, a math teacher at Seven Springs Middle.
Finalists for Administrator of the Year were Aimee Boltze, director of staff development, and Summer Romagnoli, program specialist in the communications and government relations department.
Finalists for Noninstructional-Nonbargaining Employee of the Year were Janice Trombley, now retired from the human resources department, and Susan Beach, plant manager at Hudson Middle.
Finalists for School Related Personnel Employee of the Year were Linda Banas, an instructional assistant at Gulf Highlands Elementary, and Carmen Baez, exceptional student education secretary at Wesley Chapel High.
