Hillsborough Republican Votes for Obama

7:05 a.m.: Jose Lleras, a 59-year-old registered Republican, says he votes with his heart regardless of party, and his heart tells him today to vote for Barack Obama.

"I think Barack was more open for what he wanted to do for the country versus badmouthing the opponent," says Lleras, who works for a communications company.

Lleras is the third person in line today at Precinct 103, south of Gandy Boulevard at Monroe Middle School. He showed up about 5:50 a.m. and brought a chair with him.

Tim and Kathryn Smith, who sit in chairs farther back in line at the precinct, say they arrived about 6:30 a.m.

"We didn't know how long the wait would be," says Tim Smith, who is particularly interested in the presidential election but didn't want to say who he plans to vote for today. "As it turns out, the wait isn't too bad."
