Gas prices fall 7 cents in Tampa

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Gas prices in Tampa continue to ease down, as global economies continue to cool down.

A gallon of regular unleaded now averages $3.30 in the Tampa Bay area, compared to $3.377 a week ago and $3.557 a month ago.

Statewide, a gallon now averages $3.389, compared to $3.460 last week and $3.617 a month ago.

Gas prices fell as China's manufacturing sector slowed for a third month and European retail sales and U.S. consumer spending continued to slow down, said Jessica Brady, spokeswoman for AAA Auto Club South.

That helped crude oil fall to its lowest price since 2010.

Benchmark crude lost $1.47 to $77.73 per barrel in New York in late morning trading. Oil hasn't been that low since September 2010.

"Economic news is not looking good in the long term and we can expect the market to react to every piece of economic news that comes from the U.S. and Europe in the short term," Brady said. "Gas prices continue to decrease as oil prices retreat below $80 a barrel and this trend is expected to continue for quite a while, unless positive news unexpectedly hits the market."
