Brad Hiers and his wife walked across the street from their Lakeland home to have dinner with a neighbor recently only to return and find his two University of Florida National Championship football rings had been stolen.
During the 90 minutes the couple was away, someone used a tire iron to smash a sliding glass door and make off with the rings, along with a wallet, cash and gift cards.
Since the Nov. 20 break-in, Brad has called pawn shops and worked with the Polk County Sheriff's Office to help find the cherished rings.
"My hope is that people will talk about it. And then say, 'Oh, yeah, I know those are stolen' and at least have a heart and get 'em back somehow," Hiers said.
Hiers was a reserve offensive lineman for the Gators on their 2006 and 2008 championship teams coached by Urban Meyer.
Hiers knows he can buy replacements but said they wouldn't be the same.
"It's not the rings that you got a couple of months after winning the national championships," he said.
